John Schmalzl addressed the council related to the new ordinance for charging a fee for Fire Emergency Services to non-residents in a motor vehicle accident. He stated that it is unclear as to the process of charging the fee. He stated the technical correction printed in the newspaper did not address his specific question. City Manager Wysopal stated that he will have the Fire Chief contact Mr. Schmahl and answer his questions directly.

Don Bieniek inquired if only the responding emergency fire truck had a fee charged or were all responding fire vehicles charged to the individual. Council Member Zick stated that only the roll~out of the rescue truck was charged for.

Wysopal dodges another question openly to the public, I have seen this a hundred times. Then the supposed “direct answer” never comes. Just ask various business owners who ask question like the Manager at the legion about banners.

Board adopts proposed tax levy

The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School Board adopted the proposed 2010 payable 2011 property tax levy at its Sept. 21 Board Meeting.

On or before Sept. 30, each school district must adopt its proposed property tax levy and certify it to the county auditor. The counties will now develop notices of proposed taxes, which must be mailed to property owners by Nov. 24. The School Board will then hold a tax hearing and adopt the final levy at its Dec. 14 School Board Meeting.

The total proposed levy is $36,334,817.45 or about $104,000 less than what was levied last year. Due to revisions being conducted by the State, the final levy may differ slightly from the proposed levy.
