School District 622 Pleading Poverty for TAX LEVY–Not true

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Some Minnesota Republican lawmakers plan an unprecedented campaign against school districts seeking voter-approved tax increases this fall.

State lawmakers traditionally stay out of local levy decisions, but Minnesota Public Radio News reports some Republicans are aiming to speak out against schools pleading poverty.

The chairman of the House Finance Committee, Rep. Patrick Garofalo, reminds districts that they just received a boost in state funding, including another $50 per pupil.

The Farmington GOP’er said he will be very vocal about districts he says are abusing the process when it comes to levy votes. Garofalo expects other Republican to align with the campaign.

The latest information from the Minnesota School Boards Association shows nearly a third of Minnesota districts plan levy elections in November.
